The width of the armoured glass base ( not the thickness) and the overall length of the steel U section that it sits in?........thanks

Can any one also help out with the following.........
i need details of the top support bracket/bearing which accepts the vertical gun support tubing and the gunsight bracket ie measurements or has any body got a spare one from a crash site ?
This support bracket/bearing is bolted or riveted to the underside of the panel shown just where the hole is next to the curved slot TA!

Another nice project you have there! I have always thought about creating a replica B-17 tail gun pod, the original factory fit one. I wonder whether much of the structure and bulkheads are the same as the version you are rebuilding? Have you managed to source Boeing drawings for the parts that you are missing and if so how did you go about it?

The only B-17 tail gun specific items I sourced were an armoured glass in OK condition and a stainless ammo feed guide. You can see the feed guides on either side of the guns in the following picture. If these were also used in the Cheyenne version then you are most welcome to get copies made.

Hi paul
The main internal structure is the same so if you need any patterns just say.I did manage to obtain some boeing drawings via the IWM at Duxford but alas they where for the tail stinger model and not mine. The drawings are on micro film and are in no particular order , after about four rolls it started to make me sick so i gave up.
I wanted to carry on as theres loads of drawings that i have been looking , rheostat control mounting plates , engine starter panel ,intercom (above the pilots) mounting plate etc etc but looking at a screen plowing through drawing after drawing was just to much , i might have better luck next time?
thanks for the offer of copying parts and like i said if you need dimensions etc to recreate a turret just say the word and while we are on the subject heres a couple of pictures of the weaponary.......colin

Are they re-pro or original mounts in the last photo?

MIKE.

Hi Mike
The mounts are original and as you can see are in the progress of being restored .
One of the mounts was still attatched to the forward dual clamp , when i say mount i mean just the tubular section.
This was the actual mount from this turret which had been recovered years before the turret was finally removed from its resting place.
the rest of the mounts were again recovered from my local scarap yard and utilised in the restoration.
I need to fabricate the tubular vertical support , find or remake the top bearing support and construct the repro armoured glass panel.
Luckily the ammo boxes are wood which i have dimensions to copy and a friend recovered some of the early flexi ammo guides a couple of years ago , i just hope he still has it? ;)
