My knowledge of .50 cal dates tell me that dates of 41, 42, 43, 4, and 45 where stamped into the bases to denote year of manufacture.

4 being used to state 1944.

I have come across a case stamped FA 44. Frankford Arsenal 44.
The question is this? Does being stamped 44 instead of 4 make it a rare case?
MIKE.

I've seen both FA 4 and FA 44 stamped cases, and the same from other manufacturers too.

Just a guess, but could be that the "omit the last 4" order came down during 1944, rather than at the start of the year.
