While the turret was dismantled I thought now was the time for making a start on the A frame ammo supports .I was quite pleased with the results but after offering them up to the turret i realised that they had to be altered , hopefully they will look pretty accurate once they are finished?
With the A framed finished I can then install the ammo cans , the oxygen regulator and one day the hand controller.
the next step will be the making of patterns to have two new side supports cast but that's going to be a while yet. ;)

I finally got them made but the paint is way to glossey so its going to be another respray with plenty of matting agent. I managed to obtain another turret manual from a friend in the states which finally answered a lot of my questions.
the turret is definitely an A-1but I am going to restore it as it has been modified by fitting an A12 oxygen regulator rather than installing the medium sized oxygen tank that was fitted to the under side of the A frame this in turn is going back to states to help with another turret restoration.

I forgot to mention a while ago I called on my friend shaun who is in the process of rebuilding a B17G chin turret and he is doing really well.
He was asking what I needed to complete the upper turret and after a cup of tea he went into his garage and pulled out a lump of wreckage and said is this of any use!
I nearly fell over and said yes that was the one piece that I thought I would never find , okay it doesn't look much but after chopping all of the unwanted scrap , it would then become the perfect donor for a new build turret base plate.
Hopefully with a bit of carefull heating and pressing I can take out any twisting or warping and then reset into a jig with new parts and a lot of welding?
If your not sure of what the piece is please look at page one of this thread and and look at the rotary base,
