Hi, welcome to the forum. That's a nice find, where did it come from?

If you haven't already, you could try asking in the Historic Aviation section of the Flypast forum - http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/

Hi steven
I found it years ago in a scrap yard in warrington along with a number of B17 stuff , cheek window , the remains of half the nose section , MG mounts , curtiss electric prop blades etc. There was in fact a pile of stuff about 20 foot high which included B17 and B24 undercarriage legs ,B17 engine mounts , super chargers ,exhaust rings ,oxy bottles and so on!
unfortunately i was at college at the time and as usual had no money but i tried to save as much as i could and before every body ask it has now all gone!
Talking to Mr howard the scrap man ,he said that he had to close the doors to the yanks as he could`nt take any more!
It all had originated from the former RAF Burtonwood , known to the USAAF as BAD 1 , apparantly it was the largest surplus dump in the UK after the war.The airfield dump is on the far side of the base and it was about the size of a football field but the northwest waterboard have now built a car park half way across it!

Hi there

An extremely rare and interestting project!! I also have a recently acquired turret project, B-24 tail turret, so if I should come across any parts for the B-17 upper turret I'll let you know. There were several of the ammo cans listed in December last year on eBay. I have no idea where they were or whether they sold. The guy I bought my turret project off in Atlanta has numerous other turret's and project and he may well be able to help with parts. If you require his email please PM me.

Good luck with the project!
