Hello to you all!
Obviously I'm the newbie here,so as yet I haven't much to say.
I regularly attend shows at Rougham, Bury St edmunds,Suffolk,UK, home of the 94th Bomber Group.
There we have a fully restored control tower/museum. It is open on sundays for viewing, run by a didicated volunteer team.

Until 2010 it had a very busy programe of shows. Sadly, the owner died and the person who took on the land is not so interested.
As a result we have lost the air and country shows, which is a great shame. However, that dedicated team have been looking at ways to breath life back into the place.

2012 we had a small show, which included military vehicles and displays;it was very well attended, money was raised and now the future is looking good.
Hope to see you there, maybe as re-enactors,in 2013.
Cheers
Kevin :)

Welcome Kevin....yes the passing of Lord Agnew was a tragic loss i/we spent many happy hours at Rougham and the shows just got better and better...it is a prime site for a major USAAF living history event as has been discussed on here before....without classic cars...put put single cylinder steam water pumps....candy floss and holistic therapy tents.....it has potential for a cracking show like in the past and the Flying Fortressess takings must be down twice a year....we can all help get Rougham back off the ground.....cos i for one bloody miss it.

Regards

Lloyd

Thanks guys,pleased to meet you.

I totally agree re Rougham, and now is the best chance to get in help.

I have already got permission to arrange 'camp overs' for next year, this could be the right way to get things going; maybe start with a vintage Baseball game in front of the tower. (pity i have no idea of the rules!)

:D

Hi Kevin,

as Lloydy stated we had some great times at Rougham over the years. I'd been in talks with John Agnew about saving some of the buildings on the technical site and he'd agreed to this but sadly this came just as his illness took hold and he died not long afterwards. As you rightly state, things have now changed at the site and without prompt and effective work the site will be lost to development/lack of care.

We'd be more than happy to help out at the tower but we were also aware of the 'politics' that had taken place amongst the ranks there too and this is one thing we won't get involved with. If they want a dedicated team of re-enactors who will bring 'the world' to the site then we're happy to do this, I've been in touch with a number of the families of veterans who flew from there and they'd love to see the place/site flourish but sadly they see the tower as being run like an 'old mans garden shed for somewhere for them to go', that quote did not come from me but a family member who came over a few years ago and saw what he described as 'apathy'.

The 94th story needs telling and we'd be more than happy to help out, we're not here to 'take over' anything as was leveled at me once  , we're here to help and support the museum, just as we do at Horham, Thorpe Abbots, Duxford etc etc

If we can be of help then get in touch as we'd love to see the site saved.

Cheers Dave
