How badly damaged was she to end up in this state?
Surely a static display could of been made of her?

Besides the wings this was the largest piece of fuselage existing after the crash , i asked at the time was there any thing left of cockpit which i was told there was`nt!
Well hey there was and i tried to buy what was left of it along with the remains of the nose section...........no deal!
It had to be bought as one lot......mmmmmmmmm i dont think the back garden was going to be big enough Damn!

A couple of other pictures , the top one is of the nose section i know it looks really bad but when you pulled it apart all of the starboard side was intact along with the cheek window. The roof section was also good the astro dome fairing was still there but the perspex had melted , it was a real shame as i had the port side and cheek window already in my collection. :(
At least i managed to purchase a few small items , the lower cockpit access door the hydraulic accumulator and a few oxy bottles. ;)

If i remember rightly i think it was 10k which i suppose was cheap for what was left but that was all in the past along with a waist gun section that i was offered only a couple of years later.
Unfortunately i have lost the other picture which showed the section as a realy nice piece , the radio room bulkhead was still fastened to it along with one waist window , the tail spine was still on the top and the section ended at the begining of the next window frame.
As you can gather it had come of a B17G which has staggered windows it still had the codes AW painted on the side oooh what could of been!
Even though its a poor photocopy picture if you look carefully you can still make out the star and bar on the lower part of the fuselage.
