Message for all new prospective members please read.

Due to a recent influx of new members joining with there own agendas it has been decided to introduce a new system when you attempt to join.

A short message will tell you that an administrator will contact you shortly after receiving your request to join.

Upon checking your I.P. and email addresses a decision will be made as to whether your account will be activated.

We at Aces, Contrails and Unsung Heroes apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but we also hope that you understand our actions.

MIKE. Chief admin.

We are now receiving in excess of 150 membership applications a day, the vast majority of which are dodgy in one way or another.
To put that into some kind of meaningful context, over the last nine months alone there have been over 40,500 applications, of which only two have been genuine people.

Every single one of those applications has entailed either Mike or myself cross-checking it against the lists of known spammers, by name, email and IP address, plus a general trawl of the web for anything else that may be out there.
While that may only take a few minutes per applicant, you can hopefully appreciate how much cumulative time that has consumed to keep this forum spam-free.

However, a few simple things can ensure genuine applicants don't get "binned".

Use your real name or something that is obviously related to the subject of the forum.
The idea is that it will stand out amongst a series of say 50-odd applicants with random usernames.

Unless there is a darned good reason otherwise, any applicants from Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, China and other countries well known for bulk-spamming IP addresses will be binned.

The above also applies to applicants using certain free non-geographic e-mail domains.
Russian, Indian and Chinese ones are especially suspect in these instances.
Gibberish e-mail addresses, or ones using an obviously different name to the applicant's username, will be similarly given short shrift.

Thank you.
