Hi everyone,

I don't post on here much, but thought i'd give you the heads up about the above event.

Myself and Paul Aling (Tailspin) are organising a Wartime Weekend in the town of Eye in Suffolk for August this year. It is to raise money for the 490th BG Memorial Project. The plan is to raise funds to get a permanent memorial raised on the site of the airfield, for those based there during WW2. Once this is done, we have a few more projects in the pipe line, including a book of remembrance, a small museum etc.

The plan is to turn the town of Eye back to the 1940's. We have various things in the works, including Living History displays, tours of the airfield in WW2 vehicles, presentations on the 490th and the airfield, Wartime cooking displays, 1940's dance, memorial service, MV run and more...

We have set up a Facebook page specifically for the Wartime Weekend, which will be on the 8-9th August, and with some activities happening in the Friday evening. If you want to know more, please search on FB for 'Eye Wartime Weekend'.

There are also two other FB pages which may interest you.

490th Bomb Group (H)
490th Memorial project

Please take time to have a quick look. We also have a web page www.490th.co.uk

If you wish to be involved with the weekend, I don't go on here much, but you can either PM me or Paul, or find us on FB. We are obviously on a tight budget, as we are trying to raise as many funds as possible, so that the memorial and other items can be put in place, ensuring the lads are never forgotten.

Hope to hear from you.

Adrian

This sounds like an event our AAF ground crew display would have enjoyed attending, but unfortunately it clashes with the EHMVA Military & Flying Machines display at Damyns Hall.
Not confirmed yet, but when we book Maurice to display at Damyns this year, you could ask him to make a couple of passes for you?

If only it was the weekend of 15th & 16th August......

Hi Chris,

It's a shame as it would be a perfect set up for you!

Already done buddy. Leah is on the 490th Committee! Not guaranteed, but there's a good chance!

It's a clash for our Croft event too, or I would have been interested in coming down. Too many events, not enough weekends!!
