I have a question about the type of star found on vehicles. Now, I was told that all vehicles(US) had the regular star before the invasion of Europe. After the invasion, they had the circle around it. If this were the case, what was it on vehicles left in England? Was it a mixture of both?

From a random sampling of post D-Day 8AF photos, the majority of visible hood stars are without the white circle, both with and without the star being on a disc of gas detecting paint.
